Dreamhaven, the publisher and developer established by Blizzard co-founder Mike Morhaime in 2020, is laying off an undisclosed number of employees.
In a post on Linkedin, Morehaime said Dreamhaven’s publishing division will bear the brunt of those redundancies.
Since its inception, Dreamhaven has crafted and published a number of titles including turn-based tactical RPG Sunderfolk and team-based shooter Wildgate. Those projects were developed by Dreamhaven’s in-house studios Secret Door and Moonshot.
It appears the company’s internal development teams have been largely shielded from the layoffs, with Morhaime explaining Dreamhaven remains committed to supporting its video game portfolio.
The news comes less than two months after Wildgate launched on July 22. The premium multiplayer title currently has thousands of positive reviews on Steam, but according to SteamDB estimates peaked at roughly 7,800 concurrent players at launch and has struggled to reach those heights since.
Wildgate is also available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S, but Dreamhaven recently confirmed Steam has become its “largest platform.” Sunderfolk, meanwhile, launched on April 23 and is available on platforms including PC, Xbox Series X | S, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch.
“Today, I want to share some difficult news. We made the hard decision to reduce the size of our company, with the primary impact on our Publishing group. These choices are never easy—they affect talented colleagues who have played a key role in building Dreamhaven’s foundation and supporting what has been an eventful year for us,” said Morehaime.
“From organizing the Dreamhaven Showcase to helping launch three games, every person at Dreamhaven has contributed to sharing our games with the world. I’m deeply grateful for the creativity, dedication, and hard work of the teammates we are parting ways with. They will be truly missed.”
Morhaime didn’t provide a specific reason for the layoffs but said Dreamhaven is “facing similar challenges” to studios across the game industry.
“Looking ahead, our mission remains unchanged: bringing players together through positive and meaningful experiences,” he added. “Wildgate, Sunderfolk, Lynked, and Mechabellum each reflect that vision, and we are committed to supporting these games and the communities forming around them.”
