Ubisoft reveals the free Assassin’s Creed Shadows DLC you can get via pre-order

Ubisoft is showing off the Assassin’s Creed Shadows DLC you can get at no extra cost, but only if you pre-order the game. While the Far Cry and Rainbox Six studio has done away with the Shadows season pass, it is also offering some extra content to anyone purchasing the game ahead of release. So if you want to pre-order AC Shadows anyway, or like the sound of free extras, Ubisoft has an opportunity for you.

With the Assassin’s Creed Shadows release date pushed back one last time, we’ve not got long to wait until we’re finally running across the rooftops of feudal Japan. Once the latest entry in the stealth RPG series arrives, however, Ubisoft isn’t going to hit us with its typical stream of DLC and extra content. This time you can grab an expansion and extra mission just for pre-ordering the game, if you can’t wait for Assassin’s Creed Shadows to drop.

Ubisoft confirms that you can get the ten-hour Claws of Awaji expansion simply by pre-ordering Shadows. If you don’t, you’ll have to pay for the DLC to play it when it launches later this year.

“In Claws of Awaji, feel the fear of being hunted and under threat on a mysterious island,” Ubisoft writes. “Reclaim a lost treasure while avoiding the traps and ambushes of deadly new foes. Master the Bō, a new weapon type, unlock new skills, gear, abilities, and get over ten hours of additional content.”

Claws of Awaji sounds like a pretty big DLC, especially considering that it comes as a bonus if you pre-order the game. The DLC will have a new region, a weapon, myriad side activities, extra gear, and even more skills to play with. Ubisoft says it is scheduled for “later in 2025” right now, so we’re going to have to wait to learn more.

While you have to wait for the DLC, pre-ordering Assassin’s Creed Shadows will also give you a bonus quest on launch day. Called ‘Thrown to the Dogs,’ it looks like Ubisoft will have you interacting with some adorable feudal pooches.

Ubisoft already confirmed last year that both the Assassin’s Creed Shadows early access period and season pass had been canceled. The end of the season pass doesn’t mean we’ve lost all the extra content, however, as the Claws of Awaji DLC is still coming out. It’s unclear what other extra content will be made available for Shadows after launch right now.

Ahead of the launch, we’ve got everything you need to know about the Assassin’s Creed Shadows map and exactly how long Assassin’s Creed Shadows is.
