The Nintendo Switch 2 has sold-through more than 6 million units worldwide in seven weeks.
Nintendo shared the milestone in its fiscal report for the quarter ended June 30, 2025, and stated that demand for the console is still exceeding supply in some countries.
The highly-anticipated console sold 5.83 million units globally by the end of June—but has evidently kicked on since then.
Switch 2 hardware sales totaled 1.27 million units in Japan during Q1. The handheld-hybrid sold 2.08 million units in The Americas and 1.4 million units in Europe over the same period. Nintendo said an additional 1.13 million units were sold in other regions.
Mario Kart World, the Switch 2 exclusive launch title that was available as a standalone purchase or as part of a hardware bundle, has sold 5.63 million units worldwide. Overall Nintendo Switch 2 software sales totaled 8.67 million units.
Nintendo said sales of the original Switch remained “stable” despite (somewhat predictably) declining by 53.5 percent year-on-year. The nine-year-old console sold 980,000 units during Q1 to reach 153.2 million lifetime sales.
Nintendo Switch software sales declined by 20.4 percent year-on-year to 24.40 million units.
Nintendo Switch 2 hits the ground running
Net sales increased by 132.1 percent year-on-year to 572.3 billion yen ($3.8 billion), while operating profit rose by 4.4 percent to 56.9 billion yen ($378.2 million).
The Switch 2 was the biggest sales driver at the Japanese company (go figure), with Nintendo explaining the console’s higher price (compared to the original Switch) contributed to a greater increase in net sales.
Sales within the company’s IP related business declined by 4.4 percent year-on-year to 16.7 billion yen—largely due to dwindling revenue associated with The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Digital sales in the first quarter decreased by 13.5 percent year-on-year to 69.8 billion yen and accounted for 59.3 percent of total software sales.
“Digital sales declined year-on-year mainly because of a decrease in sales of downloadable versions of packaged software and the effects of a stronger yen,” added Nintendo.
Nintendo is sticking with its current fiscal forecast and expects Switch 2 hardware sales to reach 15 million units by the end of the fiscal year in March 2026.
