The Outer Worlds 2 The Saboteur of Paradise quest guide

How do you complete The Saboteur of Paradise in The Outer Worlds 2? As the first big story quest on Eden, you’re tasked with tracking down De Vries by heading to the Vox Relay. However, it’s not as easy as heading from A to B – there are multiple routes you could take to get this main objective out of the way.

You’ll need to complete some of the first planet’s side quests to unlock certain paths, so check out the best Outer Worlds 2 skills and Outer Worlds 2 perks to unlock first to make the main quest easier. After all, The Outer Worlds 2 is a lot more complex than the first game was.

There are four different ways of getting into the Vox Relay, and we’ll detail them all below. Some are easier than others, and it’s worth noting that you may need to complete some side quests, depending on the path you choose.

Infiltrating the Vox Relay via the Gas

The first option you have is to infiltrate the Vox Relay via the route surrounded by poisonous gas to the west of the Relay. You need the shield that you get from Delphinia at the Euphoria Coast Automech Repair Center, south of Westport.

You’ll be sent there as part of the ‘The Saga of Malfunctioning Mechanicals’ side quest. Likewise, you also need to complete the ‘An Aegis Against The Miasma’ side quest here to get the shield. We have all the details in our Zyranium gas guide if you need help tracking this gadget down.

Once you have the shield and get through the gas, you have two options once more. One is off to the left, heading through the Skycutter Tower. We’ll detail that in the best path option below. Alternatively, you can follow the road to the right until you reach the main entrance to the Relay, where a guard called Sentry Second Class Lehman will be blocking the way.

If you really want to go all shock and awe, you can shoot your way into the Relay, but there are dozens of enemies you’ll have to take on. There is another way to get past Lehman, though, and we’ll detail that in the Bridge method section below.

How to get to the Vox Relay via the Bridge

The Bridge over the ravine to the Vox Relay is probably the most obvious way to progress in The Saboteur of Paradise, but it’s likely also the most challenging.

The Bridge to the Vox Relay station is guarded, stopping you from gaining access. To get past the guards, you need to complete the side quest called ‘For Whom the Bridge Tolls.’ which you can learn about in our guide. Alternatively, you can just kill everyone to get past if you trust your gun-wielding skills.

Once you’re past the Weintraut guard, you’re faced with the same front gate as you are if you come via the gas method above. However, there is a way to persuade Lehman to let you in without having to fight everyone.

You’ll need to complete both ‘The Saga of Malfunctioning Mechanicals’ and ‘For Whom The Bridge Tolls’ side quests. Completing the former leads to Vigilant Hogarth in Westport handing you a writ to gain access. However, you’ll need your Speech skill to be level three or higher in addition to the writ to be let in.

    Raptidon Den Pipe

The third option is infiltrating the Vox Relay after clearing out the Raptidon Den via Inez’s side quest. You can enter a pipe that leads straight to the Vox Relay by following the objective. Be sure to speak to the Cadet Warden Atarah to the left as you enter and advise her to leave (after killing the Raptidons), and she’ll give you an armory key for the Relay.

Best way into the Vox Relay – Help Officer Babylon Kaur

The following path is the best way to get into the Vox Relay. Kaur in Fairfield asks you to go to the Automech Repair Center and prevent it from supplying repairs to Protecrate automechs in the region. To gain access to the ARC, you need to head to the Ministry of Accuracy, where you’ll find Inez and, more importantly, the Sanitized Records and Distribution Terminal, where you can print the Euphoria ARC Pass.

Once you’re in the ARC, do the ‘An Aegis Against The Miasma’ side quest to acquire the shield, then use it to go inside the facility. You will need to use the shield several times as you make your way to the terminal that allows you to override the safety measures and shut down the repair center.

While you can do this safely, you don’t have to – either option will satisfy Kaur. Report back to her and she’ll give you a new quest, ‘Ascent In The Howling Tower’, tasking you with overloading the Vox Relay’s exterior defenses by launching a power surge inside Skycutter Tower.

Using your shield again, you can head to the northern side of the island to bypass another zyranium hazard, giving you access to the Skycutter Tower. Once you’re inside, you will need to swipe the Skycutter Entrance Key from Warden Captain Beauregard’s corpse, located near the two Rapitdon Hunters at the bottom of the stairs. The key allows you to go through the entire building. Ascend the tower and defeat all the enemies inside until you reach the top of the building, then use the Control Panel Schematics to complete the side quest.

With the Vox Relay’s defenses disabled, you can head to Vox Relay directly from Skycutter Tower. Like in option two, simply smash everyone to pieces until you reach the building. You’ll be greeted by Marshal Corbin, but unless you’ve interacted with the Protectorate before this, you may have no other option but to kill him.

As you make your way through the Vox Relay, you should find Cadet Warden Atarah around the sewage system. If your speech skill is high enough, you can lie to them, saying you’ve already cleared the raptidons from the sewers. For helping them, they will give you their Vox Armory Key to proceed to the next section.

    Inside the Vox Relay

Once you’re inside the Vox Relay, Cadet Corbin will be waiting for you as you arrive. If you’ve helped him previously, he asks you to find Montelli’s terminal to get dirt on him and to find a way to get a keycard to open the door he’s next to. This section is simple enough; just follow the waypoints.

If you haven’t interacted with Corbin in the past, he won’t recognize you. Unless your Speech is high enough or you have the required information to convince him to let you through, you may have to kill him to get past.

    How to beat Montelli

Eventually, you’ll reach a boss fight against Montelli. It’s a simple enough fight, but the best tactic is to head to the back of the arena you’re in and fire from behind the barriers back there. Then, when Montelli electrifies the walkways around the stage, jump down and fight him from close range. By this point, his health should be quite low, making it easy to finish the job.

The Saboteur of Paradise outcomes and saving Fairfield

With Montelli beaten, you need to head to De Vries’ secret room, where you’ll be able to destroy the Vox Relay. If you don’t have it, the code for De Vries’ terminal is 15-778. You can obtain this information from Savannah Lockwood early on when you first land on Eden.

You will have a few different options of how to proceed, each with different outcomes:

    • Destroy the Vox Relay, seeing it crash into Fairfield, killing everyone. That will lead to Inez leaving your party in anger in a later scene, before you head to the next planet.
    • You can use the terminal in the secret room to send the Relay to Westport, which is perfect if you’ve completed The Brain Benders of Auntie’s Choice and everyone has relocated to Fairfield.
    • Select “hit it and see if it does anything,” but you need the luck trait to manage it. It wasn’t clear to us what the option does.
    • If you have the Hack 4 skill, you can choose to send the Relay to space, keeping everyone safe.

The best option is to send the Relay to space if you can, or any option that saves as many people as possible. What you don’t want to do is relocate everyone to Fairfield and then drop the Relay on it. That’ll kill useful characters who you’ll need to turn in multiple quests, and it’ll see you lose one of the Outer Worlds 2 companions.

Hopefully, that’ll help you complete the Saboteur of Paradise main quest in whatever way works best for you. If you want to see what’s next, check out the full Outer Worlds 2 quests list to learn about the upcoming main missions.
