In what is a rather timely coincidence, Tencent has edited the Steam store page for its upcoming survival adventure Light of Motiram just weeks after Sony branded the title a “slavish” Horizon clone in a lawsuit filed against the Chinese conglomerate.
Sony described Light of Motiram as a “blatant” and “unlawful” copy of Horizon in the filing and claimed Tencent attempted to license the franchise before unveiling Light of Motiram after that pitch was rebuffed.
The PlayStation maker highlighted the similarities between the world and characters of Horizon and Light of Motiram, the latter of which features a red-haired character not too dissimilar from Horizon lead Aloy and mechanical beasts that wouldn’t look out of place in the Horizon universe.
Sony filed the lawsuit on July 25, 2025. Now, around two weeks later, Tencent has quietly edited the Steam store page for Light of Motiram to remove certain screenshots and promotional text.
For instance, Tencent previously described the title as taking place in a world “overrun by colossal machines” called “mechanimals.” The full blurb, posted below, was situated beneath a promotional image featuring a red-haired woman dressed in sci-fi tribal attire.
“In a world overrun by colossal machines, explore the vast open world, build your base of operations, advance technology, train Mechanimals, and take on formidable bosses. Starting from the primitive age, forge a new path of development. Defy the machination, survive with mechanimals,” read the original text as of July 28, 2025 (via Archive.ph).
The updated blurb (pasted below) ditches any mention of mechanimals or machines and instead highlights the title’s survival mechanics. Notably, Tencent has also replaced the promotional image featuring its Aloy-esque character with a new shot centred on two small machine animals.
“Make smart use of everything around you to stay alive and face off against formidable bosses, every step is fraught with danger and requires courage. Only by overcoming the challenges of survival can you carve out a place for yourself in this unforgiving land,” reads the new flavor text.
Tencent has also pulled a gameplay trailer and announcement trailer from the Steam page, and removed screenshots that showed characters in combat with gigantic mechanical beasts.
At the time of writing, the updated Steam page only features five screenshots—most of which focus on player strongholds and exploration.
Light of Motiram’s ‘About The Game’ section has also been heavily edited to remove gifs showcasing a range of mechanical creatures and scrap references to “a mechanical-ruled open world.”
