Saber Interactive has done a great job of bringing simulation games to a wider audience with its Runner series. From 2017’s Mudrunner through to Snowrunner and Expeditions: A Mudrunner Game, the studio has worked hard to refine its take on realistic vehicle off-roading and transportation, with each follow-up providing a markedly improved experience from its predecessor. The most compelling version of its formula arrived last month in the form of Roadcraft, which marries the attention to detail of other Saber sims with satisfying construction objectives. It appears to be a hit, too, with the parent company of publisher Focus Entertainment calling the game one of its “most successful launches” to date.
In our review of Roadcraft, Ed called the simulation game a “convincing argument that even the most esoteric subject matter can be translated into compelling videogames,” writing that its “construction mechanics and few narrative conceits create a sense of reward that you won’t get from even the most maximalist RPGs and shooters.”
Evidently, others are impressed by the game as well. We saw fantastic player numbers through Steam on its launch day, and Roadcraft appears to have done well by the standards of its publisher’s parent company as well. In a fiscal year-end earnings report from earlier today, Pullup Entertainment Group, of which Focus is a subsidiary, highlighted the “better-than-expected performance by Roadcraft,” calling it “one of the most successful launches in Focus Entertainment’s history, with over 600,000 unique players to date.”
Pullup CEO Geoffroy Sardin reiterated by specifically pointing out “the excellent first few weeks for Roadcraft” as marking “one of the best launches in Focus Entertainment’s history.”
