Silksong wins GOTY at the 2025 Steam Awards

Steam users have spoken—Team Cherry’s Hollow Knight: Silksong has been crowned Game of the Year at the 2025 Steam Game Awards.

According to a Valve spokesperson, those results came after players submitted a total of 43.8 million votes across 11 categories. The categories include a number of familiar accolades such as the “Outstanding Visual Style” award (which went to Neobards Entertainment and Konami’s Silent Hill f) and a few eccentric entries like the “Best Game You Suck At” award. Silksong scooped up that prize as well, making it the only repeat winner in this year’s slate of honorees.

Silent Hill f‘s win makes it the second year in a row a Silent Hill game has taken home the “Outstanding Visual Style” prize. Last year players awarded Bloober Team and Konami’s Silent Hill 2 remake with that particular prize.

Other notable wins include Embark Studios’ Ark Raiders prize for “Most Innovative Gameplay” and Adhoc Studios’ and Critical Role’s Dispatch win for “Outstanding Story-Rich Game.” Sandfall Interactive and Kepler Interactive’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 only snagged a (well-deserved) award for “Best Soundtrack.” It practically swept the 2025 Game Awards, making its more subdued trophy-haul here a small surprise.

In 2024, Steam users rallied behind Black Myth: Wukong, awarding it with three major prizes. This year they offered up a larger buffet of winners, giving lower-profile independent games like Team Peak’s Peak, Nuggets Entertainment’s RV There Yet?, and MoonHood and Fast Travel Games’ Follow The Midnight Walk a greater chance to shine.
