Prepare for Elden Ring Nightreign as Dark Souls Seamless Co-op arrives

While FromSoftware is set to imminently reinvent its multiplayer approach with Elden Ring Nightreign, nothing beats the thrill of the original Dark Souls. The simple act of etching your soapstone into the ground and waiting to be summoned, or calling on a random player to help you finally defeat Ornstein and Smough, is unlike any other online experience. If you want to play through the entire land of Lordran with a friend, however, that’s when things get difficult. Constant roadblocks and resets make loading into a friend’s world a challenge all by itself, but not anymore. The modder behind the most popular Elden Ring mod of all time, which makes online play much simpler, has finally released a version of it for the first Dark Souls.

Dark Souls Seamless Co-op does exactly what you think it does. Developed by ‘Yui,’ the mod massively streamlines the online experience in FromSoftware’s seminal soulslike, making it much easier to play across the internet with friends. You can travel from the Undead Asylum to Kiln of the First Flame with no restrictions: you won’t disconnect after bosses, restrictive fog walls are gone, and your experience is synchronized.

Now, if a player in the multiplayer session dies, they’ll respawn at the last bonfire they rested at instead. This doesn’t mess with progression either, as one player resting at a bonfire resets the world state for everyone. You can play with up to five others, and the group’s game progression will count for everyone when they return to their own Lordran.

To make this work, Yui has also adjusted the game’s overall balance. Scaling makes every enemy and boss just a touch harder depending on how many players are in the session, but you can still go into the files yourself and tune exactly how it plays. You can even leave on the option to be invaded by other players, so if you enjoy the thrill of watching a red-toned phantom emerge over the horizon, you can.

Yui does note that Seamless Co-op will prevent you from connecting to FromSoftware’s own matchmaking servers, however. This means you can only play with others who has the mod installed, to prevent you from getting accidentally banned.

With Elden Ring Nightreign’s co-op reinvention around the corner, now’s the perfect time to revisit Lordran and try Dark Souls Seamless Co-op with your friends. Just head here to get started.
