Crime Boss Rockay City may have launched to a mixed reception back in 2023, to put it kindly, but it’s since received a number of substantial updates to address issues like poor stealth, awful enemy AI, and a boring progression system. It’s really turned its Rockay reputation around (sorry). And now, the Payday-like shooter’s most recent update removes the annoying quick join feature and adds a brand new heist, more AI bot improvements, a handy in-game heisting guide, and lots of bug fixes and improvements.
The new heist in Crime Boss Rockay City is set in an art gallery, where you have to “traverse the nigh-impenetrable security to steal an ancient dragon statue.” It’s available to play solo or in co-op, but if you need some extra assistance, a ‘how to heist guide’ is now accessible from the pause menu. Newer players are also now met with an altered tutorial mission set in a bank with lowered difficulty, and the tutorial mission can now be completed with other players – giving you and your buds more time to play Rockay City like the best co-op games should be.
Other co-op changes include Gold Cup missions now starting with two buzzsaws, so it’s no longer randomized, and “after careful observation” the quick join feature is finally being removed. This is most likely to combat quickplay forcing players into empty lobbies and making them the host of a random heist – pretty much the exact opposite of what you expect from a prompt labelled ‘quickplay’.
A number of balance changes have also been made to co-op, including increased XP for Warehouse Defense, slightly increased rewards for Bank, Jewelry Store, and Compound, reduced cash rewards for Assassination, minor tweaks to the monetary and XP rewards of several smaller missions, and Armored Convoy also gives more XP than usual Armored Truck Heists now.

Other big changes outside of these co-op tweaks include newer missions only being highlighted for players who are above level 15 and updated perk descriptions to clarify their effects.
There are lots of other minor adjustments and bug fixes in the update, and you can check out the full list here if you’d like the entire rundown.
There’s probably still not enough tweaks to entice those who already choose Payday 3 in the heist-em-up wars, but there are enough decent changes and additions here that current players should appreciate. A brand new heist is never going to go amiss, either. Newer plays should also benefit from the streamlined tutorial. So if you’ve been holding off on giving it a go, now might be the time to start causing chaos in Rockay City.
