Newsbrief: Blizzard has named Overwatch general manager Walter Kong as its new SVP and head of development for live games and mobile.
Kong shared the news on Linkedin and explained he will still oversee the “overall strategy” for Overwatch while taking control of additional franchises.
“I’m also excited to be taking on Hearthstone, Diablo Immortal, and Warcraft Rumble. I am greatly looking forward to working with these talented teams across a wide range of initiatives, existing and new,” he said. “Additionally, I’m committed to fostering an environment of continuous learning, collaboration, and growth for all of our team members.”
Kong joined Blizzard in 2020 as an executive producer before becoming Overwatch general manager in November 2021. He previously served as head of product management (analytics and business operations) at Epic Games and had an earlier stint at Blizzard in 2011 as senior director of strategic initiatives.
