Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Ti and 5060 are official and they actually look good

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5060 have finally been unveiled as the company’s latest low to mid-tier gaming GPU options for gamers seeking reliable 1080p-1440p gaming performance in the latest games. They also bring Nvidia’s newest multi-frame gen technology to GPUs under $500 for the first time.

The steady drip feed of RTX 5060 Ti rumors and RTX 5060 specs leaks in recent weeks left little practical doubt as to the GPUs’ existence and imminent launch. However, nothing is set in stone until it’s official, and now we know exactly what Nvidia‘s latest attempts to dominate the affordable end of the best graphics card guides of the world look like.

Starting with the RTX 5060 Ti, graphics cards based on this new GPU will be available in two configurations, some with 8GB of VRAM and some with 16GB of VRAM. Otherwise, the specs of the GPU remain the same, though exact details of the CUDA core counts haven’t been revealed yet.

Instead, Nvidia refers to the GPU having 24 TFLOPs of shader core processing power, which amounts to a modest 9% increase over the RTX 4060 Ti and compares to 30.8 TFLOPs for the RTX 5070 and 90 TFLOPs for the mighty RTX 5090.

While its shader processing isn’t a huge leap over the RTX 4060 Ti, though, the RTX 5060 Ti boasts significant gains elsewhere. Its 5th-gen Tensore cores provide a massive 749 AI TOPs or AI-processing grunt while its 4th-gen RT cores provide 72 TFLOPs of ray tracing power.  Those figures compare to 353 AI TOPs and 51 RT TFLOPs for the RTX 4060 Ti, while the RTX 5070 stretches ahead with 988 AI TOPs and 94 RT TFLOPs.

Crucially, the RTX 5060 Ti prices are both slightly lower than the RTX 4060 Ti while those increases in processing power and support for DLSS 4 multi-frame gen (MFG). MFG isn’t the answer to all of life’s 3D rendering problems but in our RTX 5090 review, for instance, we noted how it could produce some incredible increases in frame rate in games that support it.

Also of particular interest with the RTX 5060 Ti is that its 16GB version could actually be a viable alternative to the RTX 5070. In our RTX 5070 review we noted that in some admittedly fairly extreme instances, the 12GB of VRAM on that card could severely limit its performance in modern, ray tracing-heavy titles such as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. This means there could be situations where the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB will provide a playable experience where the RTX 5070 simply can’t. Considering it’s so much cheaper than both the RTX 5070 and previous RTX 4060 Ti 16GB, it could be a surprise winner.

As for the RTX 5060, this GPU has the same MSRP as its predecessor, the RTX 4060, and it has the same 8GB of VRAM (though moves from GDDR6 to GDDR7), so it isn’t quite so obviously a potentially much better choice. However, its raw processing power is much better. Its shader processing power is 26% higher and its ray tracing and AI processing speeds have nearly doubled. Combined with the addition of DLSS 4 MFG and you should have a serious up-tick in frame rates in a wide range of scenarios.

All that’s just the theory, of course, and we won’t truly know how competitive these cards are until we review them and see for ourselves how they perform. Meanwhile, you’ll be able to see for yourself very soon too, as the release date for the RTX 5060 Ti cards – both variants – is tomorrow, April 16, 2025. Meanwhile, the RTX 5060 is set to follow some time in May.

The picture also won’t be fully complete until we know if AMD’s rumored Radeon RX 9060 XT cards are even real, arriving soon, and have performance and price levels that can compete with Nvidia’s latest. What we can say for sure now, though, is that it looks like the entry level end of the graphics card market is finally about to get interesting again.

Nvidia also confirmed that RTX 5060-based gaming laptops will be coming to market from May 2025 and starting at $1,099. It didn’t confirm the specs of the laptop variant of the new GPU, though.
