Mixing Stardew and Dreamlight Valley, this cozy MMO’s new update tasks you with cooking 20 million dishes

I’ve recently rediscovered my Switch. A console that generally lies dormant on my bedside, traded out for my PC or PlayStation, I’ve struggled to get on with Nintendo’s handheld, especially as my interest in Pokemon has waned. But, as the nights grow darker and autumn rolls into winter, I’ve found myself reaching for it once again, sometimes to tend to my customers in Coffee Talk, and other times to dive into a Big Apple on the brink of war in Vampire: The Masquerade – Coteries of New York. In short, I just want something cozy, and my eyes have wandered back to Palia, Singularity 6’s chill MMO. Its new autumn update is perfect for kicking back and relaxing, if you ignore the whole ‘cook 20 million dishes’ thing.

If you’re unfamiliar with Palia, Singularity 6’s debut title blends the management and social systems of games like Stardew Valley with the 3D feel of Disney Dreamlight Valley. It’s colorful, vibrant, and genuinely beautiful, with a sprinkling of fairydust to boot.

The Home for Harvest update brings a whole slew of new content to Kilima Village, including decorative crops and fairytale-inspired cosmetics (the Modern Hanbok outfit is a personal favorite). You can now add the crops to your home without using up any of your gardening space, and there are a variety of new wallpapers and floorings to choose from if you’re looking to turn your cottage into a pastel purple paradise.

The highlight of the update, however, is the aforementioned ‘cook 20 million dishes’ thing. Entitled ‘The Great Palian Potluck,’ you’ll earn rewards as players cumulatively hit the five, ten, 15, and 20 million marks, with the Sandy Palcat mat and stackable Palcat pillows being my personal highlights. We’d better hit 20 million!

Other additions include new interactable benches, which will be scattered around Kilima Village. You and your pals will be able to take a seat and watch the sunset after a hard day slaving over the stove.

If you’re looking to up your fashion game, there’s the new Rapunzel-themed set, which includes a gorgeous golden gown and lengthy braid. Coming in at 3,400 Palia Coins ($32.49), it’s accompanied by the Rapunzel’s Requiem emote, which plays different variations of the titular tune depending on what you’re wearing. If you have the full set, you’ll be able to hear the song’s lyrics, rocking the bodice alone will pull the lyrics and replace the music with humming, while simply using the emote by itself triggers the instrumental version. Coming in at 850 Palia Coins ($8.49), it’s my favorite part of the update.
