When is the next Minecraft update? The next Minecraft update is on the way, following the Pale Garden and Bundles of Bravery updates of 2024. We’ve been looking into when it arrives, and which new features it contains.
Annual Minecraft updates have been announced during a yearly Minecraft Live broadcast for years, but Mojang revealed in late 2024 that there will now be more regular, smaller updates spread throughout the year. The Minecraft Bundles of Bravery update arrived in October 2024, while December’s larger Winter Drop added the Pale Garden to the ever increasing list of Minecraft biomes. Here’s what’s coming to the sandbox game in Minecraft 1.25.5 and beyond.
Minecraft update release date
The Minecraft 1.25.5 Spring to Life release date is Tuesday, March 25, 2025. This update brings heaps of new content to the sandbox game, including mob variants, new sounds, and atmospheric flora.
The release date of Minecraft 1.25.5 was announced during the first Minecraft Live 2025. However, thanks to snapshots, we already know and have had the chance to try almost everything coming to the game this March.
Minecraft 1.25.5 Spring to Life features
During Minecraft Live 2025, Mojang devs stated that the new Spring to Life update was meant to make Minecraft biomes feel more different to one another and to give more experiences as you explore your world.
Mob variants
New mob variants apply to chickens, pigs, and cows, and give the classic mobs a new look depending on whether they spawn in cold, warm, or temperate biomes, just like wolves and frogs before them.
New plant life
When roaming the overworld now, you might notice delicate leaf particles floating down toward the ground, making Minecraft trees feel a bit more life-like. Similarly, look at your feet and you may be surprised to see colorful wildflowers unique to your current biome. These are similar to the pretty pink petals already in Minecraft.
Perhaps the most exciting addition to the flora of Minecraft though is the Minecraft Firefly bush. This gorgeous shrubbery attracts firefly particles at night, so even though we didn’t get the firefly mob we all wanted, Mojang has found a way to bring their otherwordly glow to Minecraft.
New atmospheric sounds
The Spring to Life update also features some new eery sound effects in the desert, as well as other sounds for plant life, and footsteps, and wolves. Wolves no longer all sound the same, but you’ll also find that – unlike their fur – their sounds aren’t biome-specific, so you’ll never know what noises your new pet will make.
