After announcing and then swiftly walking back plans to reset players ranks midway through Season 1, Marvel Rivals now says it’ll give the community a second chance to earn its mid-season ranked reward skin for Invisible Woman.
Compared to what we’ve seen with many new competitive multiplayer games in the past, Marvel Rivals was doing pretty well when it came to avoiding criticism or complaints about its ranked mode. Aside from groaning about coming up against overpowered heroes, NetEase put together a robust and enjoyable ranked experience. However, its streak ended this week when, out of nowhere, it revealed it would reset people’s ranks by four divisions at the midway point of Season 1 – which is less than two weeks away. This was so unpopular, NetEase walked it back within 24 hours.
It had also offered up a rank reset reward skin – the Blood Shield costume for Invisible Woman – but only those that had hit Gold or above by the time of the reset would earn it. After hearing more feedback from fans, NetEase has realized many of the aggrieved players at lower ranks want another chance to earn this skin. So, it’s changed its ruling on this as well.
In a new post, the developer says that the Invisible Woman Blood Shield costume will still be given out to players ranked Gold or higher at the original rank reset date of Friday, February 21. However, it’ll give everyone a second chance to earn it at the end of Season 1 too, so long as you’ve hit Gold by then. While we don’t officially know Season 1’s exact end date, this probably gives you another six or seven weeks to grind ranked matches to bag not only this skin but also the Blood Blaze costume for Human Torch, which is being offered up as the reward for the second half of the season.

“In order to claim both rewards, players must participate in at least 10 competitive matches during the second half of the season and reach Gold rank or higher,” NetEase says. “Keep in mind, this is the last opportunity to earn these costumes, as they will be replaced with new rewards in Season 2.”
While the decision to just announce a rank reset several weeks into the season was a truly baffling one, it’s really great to see NetEase swiftly making good with players and realizing its mistake. If it had outlined its plans for mid-season rewards and a reset at the very start of Season 1, players would likely have been fine with it. It’ll be interesting to see if it continues to push for a mid-season reset in Season 2, and if it does, it’ll surely tell players well in advance next time around.
