Pragmata finally got a new trailer and release date at The Game Awards 2025, with Capcom giving a much more detailed look at this unusual sci-fi buddy duo. After five long years, we now know that the Pragmata release date is just a few months away, and if you’re keen to get it on day one, you’re in luck, as Fanatical is offering a 17% discount on Standard and Digital Deluxe Edition pre-orders of Pragmata – the lowest pre-order price available right now.
Originally revealed in 2020, Pragmata was initially planned to launch in 2022, before being delayed to 2023. In 2023, Capcom announced its new IP had been postponed indefinitely, but promised the team was doing its best to “ensure that the final product is one that is worthy of your patience.” That patience finally paid off at Summer Game Fest 2025, with Capcom revealing a 2026 release window, which was nailed down to Friday, April 24, earlier this month, and a trailer that suggests it could be one of the highlights of the year ahead.
While Capcom has remained fairly tight-lipped about what to expect from Pragmata’s story, we know it is far from your average sci-fi adventure. Set in the “near future”, this third-person puzzle shooter revolves around Hugh, who, following a mission-gone-wrong, is saved by the mysterious Diana, an android companion in the form of a young girl. The pair must work together to make their way through a cold lunar research station, utilising Diana’s hacking powers to open new pathways and bypass security systems.
But Diana’s powers are as important in Pragamata’s action as its adventure. While Hugh provides the heavy artillery when facing off against rogue robots, in the form of energy-powered weapons, Diana’s hacking abilities are critical to lowering their defences first. This makes for a unique puzzle-infused combat system that sees you tackling a lockpick-esque hacking minigame in real-time (there’s no slowdown or pause when hacking) while simultaneously ensuring Hugh dodges enemy attacks. I did say this wasn’t your average sci-fi adventure.
Jamie played a Pragmata preview at Summer Game Fest 2025 and found that while this combat system could easily be “a complete mess” due to the amount of juggling involved, it actually worked “intuitively.” “The mastery will no doubt come when more elaborate puzzles and tougher enemies are thrown at you, but for this small slice, this seemingly complex loop was surprisingly quick to pick up and enjoy,” he wrote.
