    Dota 2 system requirements

Dota 2, or Defense of the Ancients 2 if you’re a long-time fan, is one of the oldest MOBA games still alive and kicking today, thanks to e-sports events and an active player base. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Dota 2 system requirements are incredibly low on account of the game’s age, despite numerous updates over the years.

You won’t need to buy the best gaming PC from our buying guide to get Dota 2 running, and you won’t need any more power than you’d find in any modern entry-level laptop or PC. The only factor that might hold you back is storage space, as the game has a surprisingly large footprint for a 2013 title.

Here are the Dota 2 system requirements for 2025:

    Minimum
    OS Windows 10 64-bit
GPU Nvidia GeForce 8600 or 9600GT
ATi Radeon HD 2600 or 3600
    CPU 2.8GHz dual-core processor
    RAM 4GB
    Storage 60GB

By modern standards, the Dota 2 minimum requirements can be found in just about any computer, demanding as little as 4GB of RAM, a dual-core processor with a 2.8GHz clock speed, such as the Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 or AMD Athlon II X2 240, and an Nvidia GeForce 8600 or ATi Radeon HD 2600 GPU or greater.

None of these demands are in any way challenging to meet for most machines, unless you’ve discovered a laptop from the late 2000s buried in your closet or tucked away in an attic space.

You will, therefore, likely already exceed these minimum requirements. There are no official recommended specs, but we have found from our time playing Dota 2 that your PC or laptop should have at least 8GB of RAM, a fairly modern GPU, such as an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060, and a decent CPU such as the budget Intel Core i5 12400F. This amount of hardware is pretty cheap to attain, and will more than exceed the game’s base requirements.

As for storage space, that’s where the Dota 2 download size has a little surprise. Despite being a 2013 game, Dota 2 demands 60GB of space. You won’t need an SSD to meet the game’s requirements, but we’d recommend getting the best gaming SSD from our buying guide, regardless, especially if you’re running low on room or you’re in need of a speed upgrade.
