Newsbrief: Microsoft has announced the first-ever Halo game for PlayStation 5: Halo: Campaign Evolved. It’s a notable strategic expansion for what was formerly one of the company’s Xbox-exclusive franchises, and another step away for the company from the classic console business model.
Kotaku’s Ethan Gach also spotted a Microsoft spokesperson stating that “Halo is on PlayStation going forward” starting with Halo: Campaign Evolved.
According to an announcement on the Xbox blog, the new Halo Studios game is built in Unreal Engine 5 and features updated visuals, animations, music, and re-recorded voice lines. The game will also include gameplay features from other Halo titles and new original levels.
Halo: Campaign Evolved will also launch on Steam and Xbox on PC. This news follows comments from Xbox president Sarah Bond calling the idea of console exclusivity “outdated.”
