AU Deals: The Unmissable All-Platform Sales Happening Right Now

There’s no better way to derail a weekend than to “just browse” a few storefronts and end up in possession of ten new games. Today’s discounts are absolutely in that dangerous category. From sprawling JRPG worlds to nostalgic remakes and unexpectedly brilliant licensed titles, I found a little something for every mood, every console, and every budget.

In retro news, I’m celebrating the 12th birthday of DuckTales Remastered, an exemplary milestone on how to nail an 8-bit glow-up. Ironically, developer WayForward was the opposite of Scrooge with this, sparing no expense on hand-drawn HD graphics, extra levels, unlockable content, and most of the original voice cast from the iconic ’80s cartoon. Better yet, they preserved much of the insane difficulty that made this an absolute qwacker of a game in the first place.

Accept no substitutes. Scrooge is the real goat of climbing here.

Nice Savings for Nintendo Switch

On Switch, Zelda: Link’s Awakening is still a delightful diorama come to life, a top-down classic reimagined with modern polish. I also recommend Mortal Kombat 1, which had me grinning at its ludicrous story beats before knocking me flat with its brutal, mechanically sharp fighting system.

See you in a while, Totodile. (Oct 16th more specifically.)

• Pokémon Legends: Z-A (-13%) – A$78 – A fresh Pokémon adventure promising new regions and mysteries, perfect for series veterans and newcomers alike. Probably.
• Zelda: Link’s Awakening (-13%) – A$69.90 – A charming top-down remake with puzzle-filled dungeons and a whimsical art style.
• Mortal Kombat 1 (-35%) – A$39 – An absolute Bonestorm of fighting action with a wildly cinematic story mode.
• One Piece Odyssey Del. (-24%) – A$64.90 – JRPG adventuring with the Straw Hat crew in a brand-new island tale. I quite liked it; my kids are obsessed with.
• Capcom Fighting Col. 2 (-11%) – A$49 – A retro brawler pack brimming with arcade nostalgia. The biff is always worth bringing back.

Exciting Bargains for Xbox

Series X players should not sleep on RoboCop: Rogue City. It nails the deadpan one-liners and clunky-yet-lethal movement of Peter Weller’s cyborg lawman. For something faster, Forza Motorsport offers some of the best driving physics this side of real asphalt and rewards patience in its career mode.

Best Racing Game of 2023: Forza Motorsport
Car on the right is going to win. Expert reasoning: red = faster.

• Forza Motorsport (-43%) – A$67.10 – Razor-sharp driving physics and stunning tracks for motorsport purists. Pair it with a FFB wheel like I do. Bliss.
• Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (-47%) – A$58.50 – Lightsaber duels, Force powers, an aspirational ginger hero, and cinematic Star Wars storytelling.
• RoboCop: Rogue City (-62%) – A$55.40 – Faithfully captures the grit, gunplay, and satire of this cult film that I watched way too young.
• Devil May Cry 5 Special Ed. (-75%) – A$15.70 – Stylish demon-slaying with over-the-top combos and flash.
• Dead Rising Del. Rem. (-40%) – A$41.90 – Zombie mayhem in a mall, remade for the modern age. One of my X360 favourites handled with care and respect.

Xbox One

• The Crew Motorfest (-55%) – A$44.90 – Open-world racing across a gorgeous Hawaiian setting.
• L.A. Noire (-50%) – A$44.90 – Interrogate suspects and solve crimes in 1940s LA.
• Monster Hunter Rise + Sunbreak (-75%) – A$21.30 – Hunt massive beasts solo or with friends in this action RPG.

Pure Scores for PlayStation

Over on PlayStation 5, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a ridiculous steal given how little time it’s been on shelves. BioWare’s return to form here is worth the wait, with party banter and plot twists I won’t spoil. Judgment also remains a gripping mix of legal drama and street brawling from the Yakuza devs.

When your mum says you don’t need Metal Gear Solid VI because she has Solid Snake at home.

• Death Stranding 2 (-21%) – A$99 – Kojima’s surreal post-apocalyptic courier sim returns with bigger stakes. I dug it way more than the OG.
• Dragon Age: The Veilguard (-69%) – A$34 – Epic fantasy RPG with deep party dynamics and branching choices. But I prefer the X360-era entries more.
• Judgment (-48%) – A$28.50 – Gritty detective work meets street brawling in Kamurocho.
• Horizon Forbidden West (-35%) – A$80.90 – Dazzling open-world adventure with mechanical beasts. I found the DLC to be particularly great.
• Rise of the Ronin (-28%) – A$89.90 – Freedom-focused samurai action in 19th-century Japan. Not as streamlined or prettier than Ghost of Tsushima, but not far off IMO.
• Suikoden I&II HD Rem. (-19%) – A$65 – Beloved JRPG classics restored with care.

Purchase Cheap for PC

PC-wise, Subnautica remains one of the most atmospheric survival games I’ve ever played, equal parts wonder and terror once you’re in the depths. And if you’ve not tried Silent Hill 2, this new version is the perfect way to see why it’s considered a masterclass in horror storytelling.

“Excuse me sir, I really need to use the toilet and was wonderi-” *THWACK*

• Silent Hill 2 (-48%) – A$53.30 – A masterclass in psychological horror, now remade to be even better. I feel in love all over again.
• Capcom Steam Sale (≤75%) – A$0 – Deep discounts across Capcom’s PC catalogue.
• No Man’s Sky (-60%) – A$33.90 – Universe-spanning exploration that’s grown enormously since launch. I still dig playing this in PS VR2.
• Subnautica (-75%) – A$11.20 – Survival beneath alien waves, equal parts wonder and fear. A modern classic in my mind.
• This War of Mine Comp. (-90%) – A$3.90 – Civilian survival in a war-torn city. I call it addictive yet depressing.
• Dying Light Def. (-80%) – A$15.50 – Parkour and melee combat in a zombie apocalypse. I’ve had some brilliant 4P co-op with this.
• Logitech Astro A10 (-21%) – A$79 – Sturdy wired gaming headset with crisp audio. Treat your earballs.
