This Day in Gaming 🎂
In retro news, I’m using a tactical Nuke to light a 28-candle cake for Shadow Warrior. It may look like a dog’s breakfast through your modern eyes, but ’97-me was dazzled with engine improvements like true room-over-room situations, 3D voxels instead of 2D sprites for weapons, transparent water, climbable ladders, and vehicular combat sections. Admittedly, the one-liners of the head-and-heart-ripping Lo Wang are problematic for 2025, but I love that this time capsule is permanently free to play now.

Nintendo leads with Super Mario RPG at $69 and this remade classic brings back the Square-developed SNES gem that first turned Mario into a turn-based battler. Also on offer is Doom (2016) for just $6.90, the modern refresh on the grandaddy who runs on everything from smart fridges to pregnancy tests.

Exciting Bargains for Xbox
Xbox Series X gets magical with Hogwarts Legacy + Quidditch Champions Deluxe for $38.70. The bundled Quidditch game, originally teased in legacy code, was the most requested feature post-launch. RoboCop: Rogue City also struts in at $55, with Peter Weller reprising his iconic role in surprisingly heartfelt robo-noir fashion.

Pure Scores for PlayStation
On PlayStation 5, Alan Wake Remastered is a steal at $6.70, a game so literary, it references actual Stephen King lines (with permission). Also cheap is Control: Ultimate Edition at $8.20, which cheekily shares a universe with Alan Wake through overlapping lore.

Purchase Cheap for PC
For PC, Stray is $24.70, a neon-soaked cybercat sim developed with real feline mocap actors. And Sniper Elite 5 is just $13.90, known not just for its x-ray kill cams but for letting players assassinate Hitler in hilariously over-the-top DLCs. You probably already know where you want to shoot him. No judgments from me. I say have yourself a ball.
