I keep telling myself I’ll ease up on game spending, but then an Amazon Prime event comes along that feels like highway robbery in my favour. Today is one of those days, though the sale hasn’t technically kicked off yet. Even still, there’s something for every taste, from Mushroom Kingdom nostalgia to neon-drenched cyberpunk futures.

In retro news, I’m letting the flames from a Lamborghini Aventador’s exhaust light this 11-candle cake baked for Forza Horizon 2. When FH2 roared onto Xbox 360 and Xbox One, it felt like the moment the Horizon festival truly hit its stride, ditching the tighter Colorado roads of the experimental first game for wide-open European landscapes dripping with atmosphere and automotive opportunities. And the cherry on the cake? A NOS-soaked expansion entitled Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious.

Exciting Bargains for Xbox
Over on Series X, Resident Evil 4 is a must. The remake still holds up as a masterclass in pacing, and I love that Leon’s one-liners were preserved intact. Capcom originally planned to cut the camp, but fans revolted in playtests. Grand Theft Auto V remains the gift that keeps on giving. I once lost an entire week trying to roleplay as a taxi driver in Online, and somehow it was still gripping.

Pure Scores for PlayStation
On PS5, Cyberpunk 2077: Ult. is finally worth it. CD Projekt rebuilt the game from the bones up, and I still can’t believe Keanu Reeves personally insisted Johnny Silverhand be even more abrasive. Suikoden I&II HD Remaster is another sweet pick. Yoshitaka Murayama’s world-building is unmatched.
