Nintendo may produce 25 million Switch 2 units by March

Newsbrief: Nintendo has reportedly asked suppliers to manufacture up to 25 million Switch 2 units to be ready to hit the market by March 2026.

That report comes from Bloomberg News, which notes that the company is on track to sell about 20 million of its next-generation portable console by the end of fiscal year 2025. According to analyst firm Circana, the Switch 2 is pacing well ahead of its predecessor, selling about 77 percent more units in the same 2-month window after release.

Omdia senior analyst James McWhirter credited the “unique” status of the console market in Japan as a key factor for Nintendo’s optimism. “Nintendo’s subsidized hardware pricing, which extends even to peripherals, puts Switch 2 at a significant pricing advantage over PS5 and even the entry-level LCD Steam Deck model,” he said in a statement to Game Developer. He noted that starting with this quarter Nintendo has the opportunity to begin appealing to a wider audience now that it’s sated the early adopters.
