If you don’t already have a PS5, I wouldn’t blame you from not getting one. The console launched in 2020 for AU$749, but after several price increases in Australia and abroad, nowadays you’re looking to pay AU$829 for the privilege. Usually consoles get cheaper as they age, but due to a number of factors, including a “challenging economic environment”, that’s no longer the norm.
That’s why it’s worth being patient and waiting for major discounts on a PS5. If that’s your tactic, then the time is now: Amazon is currently selling the PS5 Slim with disc drive for AU$699. The last time we saw the PS5 go that cheap was in June, during the weeks leading up to Amazon Prime Day. With Amazon Prime Big Deal Days coming up, history is repeating.
If you don’t need the disc drive, Amazon is also selling the PS5 digital edtition for AU$574, down from AU$749.95. That’s a good price for what is still the best console on the market, though its disc-free nature does preclude you from taking advantage of physical media sales and trade-ins.
Now’s a good a time as ever to buy a PS5. Ghost of Yotei comes out this week, and according to our reviewer it’s “one of the first PS5 games to feel truly boundary-pushing”. Amazon is currently flogging that for AU$99, which is a bit over AU$25 beneath its RRP.
Then after that, you can wait and see what games get substantially discounted during Amazon Prime Big Deal Days, which kicks off on October 7. We’ll be keeping track of all the bargains here.
