Nintendo is discontinuing Switch Game Vouchers

Nintendo is discontinuing Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers, which allow Nintendo Switch Online subscribers to pay around $100 for two premium games from an eligible list.

Announced earlier today, the company is ceasing the program at 11:59 PM Pacific Time on January 30 2026. After that time, it won’t be possible to purchase new vouchers. Any vouchers purchased on or before that date will continue to work as intended—meaning they’ll remain active for 12 months after the time of purchase.

“For example, if a set of Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers is purchased on January 30, 2026, each Nintendo Switch Game Voucher remains valid until January 30, 2027,” reads the FAQ alongside the announcement. It also notes that vouchers are eligible to redeem as long as the user has an active, paid Nintendo Switch Online membership.

Fewer ways to save on Nintendo games

The program serves as a way to get a discount on a number of first-party and third-party titles. For example, users can spend $100 on two vouchers, and redeem them for digital copies of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, valued at $70, and, say, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, valued at $60, saving $30 in the process. Nintendo hasn’t clarified if it’ll continue to update the eligible games list, but it’s worth noting that vouchers can’t be redeemed for Nintendo Switch 2 games, as noted in the program’s FAQ.

The Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers program isn’t the only saving method that the company has discontinued this year. In February, Nintendo announced that it would discontinue Gold Points, a currency earned from making purchases in the Nintendo eShop, on March 24. Similarly to vouchers, Gold Points continue to be valid for 12 months after being earned.

The Nintendo Switch 2 launched on June 5 for $449. While the console dodged a price increase due to tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, most accessories saw a “price adjustment” ahead of release. Regarding the price of Switch 2 titles, the company said it’s taking a “variable” approach—as of now, Mario Kart World costs $80, while Donkey Kong Bananza, releasing on July 17, will cost $70.
