Ever since Fortnite Festival inspired the PDP Riffmaster in 2024, more plastic guitar controllers have been coming out of the woodwork. And the Hyperkin Drakong InfinaKore Telecaster Edition Guitar Controller is the latest.
Just like the Riffmaster or the CRKD Gibson Les Paul, the Drakong InfinaKore is a 5-fret plastic guitar. But while Fortnite Festival is the primary reason this guitar controller is coming out, Hyperkin has claimed this guitar controller will have wide compatibility across multiple platforms, stretching back to the Xbox 360, and even including platforms like iOS and Android.
The primary reason this guitar exists is obviously Fortnite Festival, which according to Hyperkin, has grown to an average 2.2 million daily players. But this new guitar controller will also support other 5-fret guitar games, which of course includes Guitar Hero and Rock Band games, but also community favorites like Clone Hero.
Just like the old Rock Band guitars, the Drakong InfinaKore has slimmer fret buttons near the base of the neck to better allow for fret tapping. That’s a pretty common feature in guitar controllers, but what sets this one apart is that on the frets above them are four directional keys. For the uninitiated, Fortnite Festival has the strum bar mapped to the up and down keys, and having these arrow keys on the neck allows you to quickly ‘strum’ without trying to hit the strum bar with your elbow when you miss a note.
The controller will also have a “star power” button near the strum bar, so you can more reliably enter the special mode when the tilt isn’t working for whatever reason. All the buttons are also hot swappable, which should help the controller last for years.
Hyperkin has not shared a release date or a price for the Drakong InfinaKore, but hopefully it isn’t too far out.
