The Oldest House in Remedy Entertainment’s Control remains my all-time favorite videogame locale, blending brutalism, government bureaucracy, and science fiction into something that transcends all three. That’s why I’m excited for the studio’s next game, FBC: Firebreak. Imagine Left 4 Dead, but the zombies have been replaced by stationary. If you’ve been itching to play as much as I have, Remedy is holding a closed technical test very soon, and all you need to do is sign up and cross your fingers.
Before you take on FBC: Firebreak’s sticky note menace, you need to get prepared. That means selecting a weapon and customizing your crisis kit to perfection, with special tools, grenades, support items, and paranormal upgrades that’ll give you an edge.
As my colleague Jamie pointed out in their FBC: Firebreak preview from earlier this year, Remedy’s co-op FPS game is going to stand out for three reasons: it’s zany, it avoids the live service trappings of modern games, and it’s endlessly flexible. The core experience comes first, as Remedy doesn’t want to bog you down with infinite replayability and constant upgrade screens. Instead, you’ll be embracing the chaos during gameplay and diving into one of the best videogame worlds ever made.
