Journey and Sky: Children of Light developer thatgamecompany is partnering with Hypergryph subsidiary Coreblazer to co-host a global game jam that will offer cash prizes to up-and-coming developers.
Fittingly called “thatgamecompany x Coreblazer Game Jam,” the three-week event intends to “champion emotionally impactful games and a new generation of upcoming industry talent.”
The game jam kicks off on April 28, 2025. The co-hosts are looking for “four-quadrant” games, which they describe as projects that can be “equally enjoyed by all ages.”
Submissions will be reviewed by both teams with finalist submissions being evaluated by a panel including thatgamecompany founder and creative director Jenova Chen, Hypergryph co-founder and creative director Light Zhong, director emeritus of the USC Games program Tracy Fullerton, and other leading industry figures.
Qualifying projects will compete across three categories for cash prizes—including Best Overall for $4,000 and Best Visual Design, Best Gameplay, and Community‛s Voice Award for $2,000 each.
Developers interested in participating can read the full guidelines and submit projects online via the official site. The winners will be announced on July 11, and participants will be invited to showcase their winning games at Coreblazer Game Fest 2025, which runs from July 26 to July 27 in Shanghai.
Thatgamecompany received a $160 million investment in March 2022 to create projects that “deepen human connection through gameplay.” The studio ported Sky: Children of Light to PlayStation later that year.
Meanwhile, Hypergryph was one of the companies that helped provide $19 million in funding to Ruckus Games in November 2024 to help the nascent studio develop a co-op shooter codenamed ‘Project Bobcat.’
