I’m always happy to revisit Dark Souls 2. It’s definitely the black sheep of Fromsoftware’s oeuvre, but its penchant for off-kilter design decisions keeps me coming back. The abundance of life gems, nonsensical level layouts, and adaptability stat are just some of the bizarre choices that make DS2 unlike anything else. If you’ve never played it, then, or fancy diving back into the kingdom of Drangleic for another round, now’s the perfect time. One of the most prolific modders in the soulslike community has set their eyes on Dark Souls 2, and they’re about to change the game forever.
If you’ve never heard of ‘Yui,’ you definitely know their work. Their Seamless Co-op mod is by far the most popular for Elden Ring, and they recently adapted it for the first and third games in the Dark Souls trilogy. Seamless Co-op makes each of the soulslike games infinitely better with friends, and now Yui is coming for Dark Souls 2.
Dark Souls 2 Seamless Co-op will bring Yui’s unmissable creation to Fromsoftware’s most splitting game, and I can’t wait. Yui’s goal with the mod, and every other iteration of Seamless Co-op, is make online play much simpler. Multiplayer sessions remain persistently active after player deaths, boss encounters, teleports, and other actions – instead of sending the online spirit home as they normally do. There are no fogwalls preventing multiplayer progress either, and everything can be synchronized for all players to make jumping in and out easier than ever.

Yui’s other mods also have optional difficulty modifiers, and Dark Souls 2 will be no different. So if you want to increase enemy health and damage, turn on friendly fire, or go through all of DS2 with PvP invasions happening at every turn, you can.
While you can play Yui’s other Seamless Co-op mods right now, you’re going to be waiting a little while for Dark Souls 2. “The mod is very early in development, but I will post updates here once more progress has been made,” Yui writes on Patreon. “I’m working on this project in tandem with maintaining and developing my other mods.”
With the Elden Ring Nightreign release date right around the corner, there’s no better way to get prepared than by experiencing as much of Dark Souls as you can with friends. Seamless Co-op makes that easier than ever, doing away with constantly having to put down summon signs and rejoin your friends every time one of you dies. It’s become the only way I play any of Fromsoftware’s games with friends, and with nine million downloads of the Elden Ring version alone, many others agree.
