While some might be scouring for the next drop of Half-Life 3 news, I’ve moved on. Valve’s defining, epochal sci-fi FPS may one day return, but Abiotic Factor is already delivering what I actually want from a scientific fight for my life against mysterious, alien threats. Drawing clear inspirations from the tales of Gordon Freeman, the co-op survival game is preparing to hit 1.0 in the summer – but its price will be increasing before then, developer Deep Field Games confirms, so take this last chance to grab it at its cheapest while you can.
Abiotic Factor brings up to six players together for a weird and whimsical adventure. Caught between a failure in the paranormal containment facilities of their research lab, a military crusade, and portals opening up to entire alternate realms, it’s up to you to figure out how to bring the chaos back under control. With a delightful art style calling back to the look of the original 1998 Half-Life, Abiotic Factor walks the line between terrifying and ridiculous, earning a spot in my heart as one of the best survival games in years.
In February, Deep Field expanded the facility once again with the launch of its Dark Energy update, and the next major overhaul – Cold Fusion – is set to mark Abiotic Factor’s departure from early access. It’ll open the doors to the Residence Sector, dramatically ramp up gear variety with a new Enhancement Bench, overhaul the way enemy assaults on your base are handled to make them more fun, and drop in plenty of quality-of-life improvements for good measure.

Ahead of Abiotic Factor 1.0, however, Deep Field is increasing the price – something it had always promised to do upon leaving early access. This is actually coming a little before the update, the developer explains, “because there are issues with changing the price on Steam around release dates, and we don’t want to mess up the dates of sales we had planned before and after launch.”
You can expect an increase of $10, from $24.99 to $34.99, to arrive on Thursday May 1 (with equivalent adjustments in other regions). Get it right now, however, and not only can you benefit from an ongoing Steam sale bringing Abiotic Factor to its lowest price since launch, but you’ll also be granted the supporter’s edition for free when 1.0 lands, along with some bonus early-access cosmetics.
Abiotic Factor is 20% off on Steam until Thursday May 1, meaning you’ll pay just $19.99 / £16.79. Once the sale ends, the game’s base price will be increased to $34.99. All early-access buyers will get the supporter’s edition for free when 1.0 launches in the summer. Head here to get your copy while it’s going cheap.
